In 1904 my family moved from Bohemia to New York where my great-grandfather had been offered a job as a cabinet maker at the Steinway Piano factory in Queens.
Back in Prague a hundred and ten years later
beauty and fantasy are still part of everyday life.

19th century Czech painting has a very dark side.
Back in New York City an entirely different aesthetic.
Super, Robert. Your work has always had a magical quality. Glad that you had a great trip.
Beautiful photos of a magical place. Will be interesting Robert to see the impact of this visit on your work!
Hey Robert,
What a visually-inspiring trip! Did you visit any of the places where your great-grandfather and other ancestors used to live? That’s interesting that your grandfather used to work for Steinway. Do you think that his experience, working creatively for piano makers, most likely meeting incredibly talented musicians and woodworkers, influenced his/your family?
Your paintings are beautiful! And yes, it’ll be interesting seeing how this trip may influence your future work. Already, I can see connections between your past work (the street lights, the blurred lights) and the photos of Prague in this post.
Please say hello to Elizabeth for me! I owe her a letter!
